On 14 June 2025, a high-impact community initiative was successfully carried out at the Perlis Orphanage Welfare Organization in Jejawi through the Sustainable Community Composting Initiative. This initiative aimed to introduce sustainable organic waste management practices while fostering environmental awareness and empowering the community with basic composting knowledge and skills.

The project was sponsored by the Perlis Islamic Foundation and implemented through a strategic collaboration between the orphanage management, students of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), and the orphaned children themselves. Through this approach, daily food scraps and organic waste are processed into compost fertilizer for small-scale farming activities within the institution.

In addition to promoting environmental sustainability and reducing landfill waste, the project provided valuable learning opportunities for the children to understand the concepts of recycling economy and green technology in a hands-on manner. A symbolic handover ceremony of the composting system and certificates of appreciation was also held to acknowledge the contributions of those directly involved in making the project a success.

It is hoped that this effort will serve as a catalyst for more green initiatives at the community level, contributing to social well-being and environmental sustainability.
