An industrial visit to the Regional Sewage Treatment Plant (RSTP), Kota Setar, Kedah was conducted on 12 November 2025, involving 36 final-year undergraduate students from the Bachelor of Environmental Engineering programme, accompanied by five (5) FKTA lecturers.

The RSTP Kota Setar is a newly developed treatment plant equipped with advanced technology and a design capacity of 100,000 population equivalent (PE), operated by Indah Water Konsortium (IWK). The visit provided students with valuable real-world exposure to modern wastewater treatment practices, including wastewater treatment processes, engineering design of treatment systems, daily plant operations in compliance with industry standards, and the importance of wastewater management within the context of sustainability.

This experiential learning opportunity strengthened students’ understanding of the design, operation and management of wastewater treatment systems implemented by IWK, effectively bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world industrial practice.

The program was organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Technology (FKTA), UniMAP, in collaboration with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) Perlis on 21 June 2025. The opening ceremony was officiated by YBhg. Prof. Dato' Ts. Dr. Zaliman Sauli, Vice-Chancellor of UniMAP.

The program also received support from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Perlis, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Kedah/Perlis, and UniMAP’s Research and Environmental Sustainability Growth (WAREG). It was sponsored by key industry partners including NL Scientific Instruments Sdn. Bhd., Megajati Academy Sdn. Bhd., Bank Rakyat, and NEPTA Development Sdn. Bhd.

Participants came from various institutions including Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Kolej Vokasional Setapak Kuala Lumpur, Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Kuantan, Sebelas Maret University (Indonesia), and Walailak University (Thailand). Each team was required to construct an eccentric structure based on the criteria of aesthetics, lightness, and structural efficiency.

On 14 June 2025, a meaningful initiative was successfully carried out at the Perlis Orphanage Welfare Organization through the Solar-Powered Hydroponic System Project. The project aimed to introduce environmentally friendly modern agricultural technology while adding value to the welfare institution through a sustainable and competitive farming system.

This project was the result of a strong collaboration between the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), the Department of Agriculture Perlis, Zaha Bina Utara, and the orphaned children. This effort not only promotes sustainable food sources but also provides the children with opportunities to learn about modern farming methods using renewable energy.

A symbolic certificate presentation ceremony was also held to recognize and appreciate the parties directly involved in the success of the project. It is hoped that this project marks the beginning of more high-impact collaborations for the benefit of both society and the environment.
