On 14 June 2026, a group of students from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Programme, Faculty of Civil Engineering & Technology (FKTA), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), successfully carried out a high-impact community project entitled Sustainable Smart Fertigation System at Kompleks Penyayang Dr. Siti Hasmah, Perlis. The project was implemented under the course AMJ41403 – Engineers for Society (EFS) and was guided by the Service-Learning Malaysia (SULAM) approach, which integrates engineering knowledge with direct community engagement.
The primary objective of the project was to develop and install a smart fertigation system capable of automatically supplying water and nutrients to plants. The initiative aimed to address challenges faced by the complex in maintaining its plants due to limited manpower and prolonged hot weather conditions. The system was designed based on efficient irrigation principles to optimise water usage and improve plant survival and growth.
The program involved a series of activities, including site preparation through community clean-up efforts, installation of the fertigation system, planting sessions, knowledge-sharing activities, and demonstrations on the operation and maintenance of the system for the residents. Through these activities, participants were exposed to modern agricultural technologies while gaining valuable insights into sustainable farming practices and efficient resource management.
The project also supports the aspirations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, by promoting food security, knowledge transfer, and the sustainable use of water and nutrient resources.
The project team would like to express its sincere appreciation to the management of Kompleks Penyayang Dr. Siti Hasmah for their support and cooperation throughout the implementation of the program. Appreciation is also extended to all participating students for their commitment, teamwork, and dedication in making this initiative a success.
It is hoped that this project will continue to benefit the residents while promoting environmental sustainability, community well-being, and the practical application of engineering solutions to address real-world challenges.

UniMAP Participates in APAIE 2026 in Hong Kong
Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) proudly participated in the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2026, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 23–27 February 2026 Recognised as the largest higher education conference in the Asia-Pacific region, APAIE 2026 brought together more than 2,500 delegates from 65 countries worldwide.
UniMAP was represented by Che Zulzikrami Azner Abidin, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Technology (FKTA), together with representatives from the Centre for International Engagement (CIE). Throughout the conference, the UniMAP delegation engaged in a series of strategic meetings with leading universities and institutions from Australia, Europe, Japan, South Korea, Türkiye, and other regions.
These engagement sessions focused on strengthening global networks, exploring academic collaborations, and expanding opportunities for student and staff mobility. Several Letters of Intent (LoIs) were also exchanged as preliminary steps towards future collaborations involving joint research initiatives, academic exchange programmes, and other strategic partnerships.
FKTA remains committed to expanding its international collaborations in support of academic excellence, innovation, and global engagement. Participation in APAIE 2026 reflects UniMAP’s continuous efforts to strengthen its international presence and foster meaningful partnerships that benefit students, staff, and the broader academic community.
As UniMAP continues its journey towards greater internationalisation, such engagements play a vital role in creating new opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and global impact.

The UniMAP Sports Carnival (KSU) 2025, held from 14 to 16 November 2025, concluded successfully with an improved overall performance by FKTA compared to the previous year. FKTA athletes achieved an impressive medal tally, securing five (5) gold medals in Handball, Athletics and Woodball; four (4) silver medals in Petanque, Woodball and Athletics; and five (5) bronze medals in Rugby, Sepak Takraw, Athletics, Woodball and Petanque.
The faculty extends its heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all staff and students who contributed their time, energy and resources towards the success of KSU 2025, whether as committee members, athletes or coordinators. Overall, the performance of FKTA athletes demonstrated a significant improvement. Congratulations to all involved on this outstanding achievement.
